Two-Year Journey in PL: Triumphing All Trophies & Aguero’s Shirt Request
Julian Alvarez, the 24-year-old Manchester City forward, has already achieved a remarkable amount in his short career. Last season, he played a crucial role in helping Manchester City secure the Treble, and since then, he has added the Super Cup and Club World Cup to his collection of trophies. Not only that, but Alvarez was also part of the Argentina side that lifted the World Cup in December 2022, adding to their Copa America triumph the previous year. With such an impressive medal collection, Alvarez believes there is no reason why he cannot win all these titles again.
In an interview ahead of Manchester City’s trip to Crystal Palace, Alvarez expressed his desire to keep growing as a player and as a person. He stated, “It’s a lot of titles, yes, but I just want to keep doing it. I will keep training and will keep working for the fans so we can get more pleasure out of winning.” Despite already having an extensive trophy collection split between Manchester and South America, Alvarez remains motivated to achieve more success.
One person who is sure to be envious of Alvarez’s glittering collection is Sergio Aguero, Manchester City’s all-time leading goalscorer. Although Aguero has an impressive array of silverware from his time at the Etihad, including multiple Premier League titles, the World Cup and Champions League have always eluded him. Alvarez, who sought Aguero’s advice before joining Manchester City, revealed that Aguero recently reached out to him for a signed City shirt to give to a good cause. The admiration between the two Argentine players is evident, with Alvarez stating, “He’s always been an example for me but especially now I play for City.”
While Alvarez missed the opportunity to play alongside Aguero at Manchester City by just 12 months, he now shares striking duties with Erling Haaland. Despite some suggestions that they cannot work together as a pair, Alvarez dismissed these claims and believes they can be a formidable duo. He said, “It’s a pleasure to play with him always. We have shown we can play together and give a lot to the team when we do. I have the feeling we can do it.”
Alvarez has made a significant contribution to Manchester City, scoring 16 goals already this season. He expressed his happiness at playing more this season and his ability to adapt to different positions. His versatility and willingness to adapt have been crucial in his success at Manchester City.
Off the field, Alvarez has brought his boyhood nickname, “La Arana” (the Spider), with him to the Premier League. He received this nickname because of his incredible speed and agility on the pitch. Alvarez’s ‘Spider’ goal celebration has become a familiar sight for Manchester City fans. When asked about his nickname, Alvarez said, “City asked if I wanted to hear that. I said I’d rather it be in Spanish as Arana is my nickname, rather than Spider. I love that I’m still called it.”
As Manchester City aims to secure maximum points against Crystal Palace to keep the pressure on rivals Liverpool and Arsenal in the title race, Alvarez’s continued contribution to the team will be crucial. With his determination and hunger for success, there is no doubt that Alvarez will continue to shine at Manchester City, even playing behind the likes of Erling Haaland. As he strives to win more trophies and make a name for himself in English football, Alvarez’s journey in the Premier League is one that fans will be eagerly watching.
