Trent Alexander-Arnold: A Midfield Masterclass

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s transition to the midfield has been nothing short of impressive. His performances for England have shown that he is more than capable of playing in the middle of the park, and his assist for Bukayo Saka’s hat-trick goal was a testament to his quality.

Alexander-Arnold’s Versatility

Alexander-Arnold has been a mainstay in Liverpool’s defence since he broke into the first team in 2017. His ability to play both as a right-back and a right-sided midfielder has made him a valuable asset for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The 23-year-old has also been utilised in a more advanced role for England, and his performances have been impressive. He has shown an ability to read the game and pick out passes, while his defensive work rate has been impressive.

Alexander-Arnold’s Assist for Saka

Alexander-Arnold’s assist for Saka’s hat-trick goal was a moment of pure class. The Liverpool defender showed great vision to pick out Saka’s run, and his pass was inch-perfect.

Saka was full of praise for Alexander-Arnold after the game, saying: “He’s a top, top player, everyone obviously know that. At half-time, he said to me that he was going to do that pass and obviously when I did score I was looking at him to thank him, because he did it. He did it perfectly, I didn’t really have to break my stride. That’s just the quality that he has, so credit to him.”

Gareth Southgate’s Praise

England manager Gareth Southgate was full of praise for Alexander-Arnold after the game, saying: “Tonight he had to make a lot of decisions and he did it almost immaculately. He regained a lot of balls. His pressing was good, so for me, he has got everything to play in there. I didn’t even think twice about starting him in there. It might give us something completely different. The vision and the passing range and the connection with Bukayo for his second goal [stood out].”

Conclusion

Trent Alexander-Arnold has shown that he is more than capable of playing in midfield for both Liverpool and England. His performances this month have been impressive, and his assist for Bukayo Saka’s hat-trick goal was a moment of pure class. With his versatility and quality on the ball, Alexander-Arnold looks set to be a key player for both club and country in the coming years.
