Liverpool Need to be ‘Near Perfect’ to Challenge for Premier League Title – Trent Alexander-Arnold
Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted that the Reds need to be “near perfect” next season if they are to challenge for the Premier League title. The Merseyside club had a disappointing 2022/23 campaign, finishing fifth in the table and 22 points behind champions Manchester City.
Alexander-Arnold believes that the Reds need to be consistent throughout the season if they are to compete with Pep Guardiola’s side. He said: “We know how to win the league, we know how to challenge City and go toe to toe with them and you need to be near perfect throughout the season so for us that’s where our heads are at.”
The England international believes that Liverpool’s lack of consistency was their downfall this season. He said: “It’s consistency. Throughout the season we had good results against the big teams but we dropped points and sloppy points away from home especially, so these are the things that we’ve all naturally thought about that we need to correct.”
Liverpool have already begun their pre-season preparations and have added two new signings in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. Their pre-season fixtures begin on 19 July against Karlsruhe in Germany.
The Reds will be hoping to improve on their fifth-place finish this season and challenge for the Premier League title. However, Alexander-Arnold knows that they will need to be near perfect if they are to compete with Manchester City next season.
If Liverpool can find the consistency they lacked this season, then they could be in with a chance of challenging for the title next time round. It will be an exciting season for the Reds and their fans, as they look to get back to their best and challenge for the top honours in England.
