The Heisman Trophy finalists are LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., Oregon quarterback Bo Nix, and Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
Monday marked the voting deadline for the 89th Heisman Trophy, with over 870 voters, including media members and former Heisman winners, casting their ballots.
Surprises Among the Top 10 Finishers
Jordan Travis’ fifth-place finish highlights his value to the undefeated Florida State team, especially after being left out of the College Football Playoff due to his season-ending leg injury. It is unfortunate that he was not invited as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy ceremony.
Jalen Milroe’s impressive improvement throughout the season makes him a strong contender for the preseason Heisman Trophy favorite in 2024.
The 10th-place finish of J.J. McCarthy was surprising, considering his stats and performance. However, being the starting quarterback for the No. 1 team likely earned him some votes.
Implications for the Winner
Jayden Daniels is the favorite going into the Heisman Trophy announcement. However, the presence of Milroe and Schrader in the top eight from SEC schools could potentially split votes from SEC country. McCarthy’s 10th-place finish based on team success may also indicate that Michael Penix Jr. received votes for the same reason. The winner will be revealed soon.
