Transfer news LIVE: Chelsea in Frenkie de Jong £59m plus Alonso bid, Barcelona ‘to launch £67m Alexander-Arnold offer’

    Morning Transfer News round-up

Leicester City duo Wesley Fofana and James Maddison will NOT be sold this summer.

Chelsea are keen on Fofana, while Newcastle would like to sign Maddison.

But the Foxes have no intention of letting the pair leave, Brendan Rodgers insisted.

He said to the media: “Wesley Fofana and James Maddison are not for sale. These are very important players to us.

“We’re in a situation where we need to move some players out but that doesn’t mean getting rid of anyone, our best assets.”

Meanwhile, Wolves have reportedly rejected a third bid worth £35m from Nottingham Forest for Morgan Gibbs-White.

That’s because Wolves boss Bruno Lage insists Gibbs-White is an integral part of his squad.

He said: “We rejected because he’s an important player for me, my dynamic and the future. He feels important, he is happy.

“When you have this connection between manager and player, everything is good. He is fit and motivated.”

Elsewhere, Everton are nearing completion of a deal to sign Lille star Amadou Onana, according to reports.

The Belgian midfielder is set to cost the Toffees £35million.

Onana has been a target for West Ham, who also had a bid of the same figure accept by the French side.

However the player has reportedly decided that he prefers a move to Goodison Park rather than the Hammers.

The East London outfit were unable to agree personal terms with the 20-year-old but Everton are closer to getting him signed and just small details remain, according to reports.

In other news, DC United manager Wayne Rooney is close to signing Crystal Palace star Christian Benteke.

According to the Daily Mail, a deal has been struck between the MLS outfit as well as Palace and Benteke, 31, is set to move to the US.

The Washington Post report that the striker will become the Washington giants’ all-time best paid player.

The Belgium international’s salary is expected to eclipse Rooney’s $3.5million (£2.9m) per-year wages he made when he played for the club between 2018 and 2020.

However, the 31-year-old will need a work visa and that process may take at least two weeks.

Also, Ex-Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum has joined Roma on loan from PSG.

Wijnaldum’s been set free from his PSG nightmare to head to Italy for the season with an option to buy added to the deal.

And Wijnaldum expressed his delight after completing his switch.

He said: “It’s a really good feeling to be a Roma player. Everyone I have spoken to has given me great feedback about the club and its fans.

“The club made it clear just how much they wanted me in the efforts they made to complete the deal, which always gives a player a lot of confidence and belief. The reception from the supporters, on social media and elsewhere, has also been fantastic.

“I promise to give 100% and help the team compete for all our targets this season.”

Finally, West Ham have signed Maxwel Cornet for £17.5m from Burnley.

The Hammers activated the Ivory Coast star’s release clause fee to bring him to East London on a five-year deal.

An option to add another year to the contract has also inserted.

Speaking on the move, Cornet beamed: “It’s a new step for me to join this big Club and I’m really happy to be here, to be part of the project for the Club. I’m just excited to start.”
