Chelsea look set to hijack Manchester United’s move for Frenkie de Jong, but it remains to be seen whether the Blues can reach a deal with Barcelona.

The Spanish giants continue to dominate headlines and face a race to register their five new signings, including Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, before LaLiga begins on Saturday.

Barca have splashed more than £140million this summer, despite being around £1.14billion in debt, and despite raising funds through financial levers, the Spanish top-flight wants the Catalans to raise £85m before their current wage bill can be deemed acceptable.

Selling De Jong would help, although Barca still owe the Dutchman £17m in deferred wages, and Chelsea are also keen to take Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang off their hands.

Barca are thought to be keen on Man City star Bernardo Silva, who has not ruled out a transfer but could cost as much as £80m.

Elsewhere, Man United continue to face criticism amid an underwhelming transfer window, and could see a deal for Adrien Rabiot collapse

Marcus Rashford could also leave Old Trafford this summer with PSG keen.

Meanwhile, Harvey Elliott has signed a new long-term contract at Liverpool.
