“Tottenham’s Top Failed Transfers: Rivaldo, Hazard, Dybala, and Luis Diaz”

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur has a history of missing out on top transfer targets, including Eden Hazard, Paulo Dybala, and Luis Diaz, who signed for Liverpool after negotiations with Spurs broke down. SunSport has compiled a list of the best players Tottenham has narrowly missed out on signing, including Pau Lopez, Jules Kounde, Ruben Dias, Gary Cahill, Adama Traore, Eden Hazard, Joao Moutinho, Jack Grealish, Paulo Dybala, Rivaldo, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Tottenham nearly signed Pau Lopez in 2016 for just £6m but passed up the option and instead bid just £1.7m. Espanyol rejected the offer and he joined Real Betis before moving to Roma for around £20m in 2019 and is now at Marseille. Tottenham wanted Ruben Dias in 2020 but wouldn’t sanction a £50m fee for the man who has gone on to star for Manchester City. Jules Kounde rejected Spurs in 2021 before moving to Barcelona in the summer. Tottenham thought they had a clear run at signing Jack Grealish in 2019 but left it too late to sign Joao Moutinho from Porto in 2012. Paulo Dybala’s move to Tottenham fell through after no agreement could be found regarding the player’s image rights and he remained in Turin until he left for Roma three years ago. Tottenham nearly signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but never called back after showing him around White Hart Lane.
