Tottenham reject Bayern Munich’s third bid for Harry Kane
Tottenham have rejected Bayern Munich’s third bid for Harry Kane, an offer which the German giants claimed would be their last. It is the third time Spurs have rejected an offer for their record scorer from Bayern this summer, with a first bid spurned in June and a second in July.
The Bundesliga champions made a third, and potentially final, offer on Friday as they will need to move onto other targets if they cannot get Kane. The latest bid to be rejected was worth £85m, with Spurs holding out for £100m for their talismanic striker.
Kane Appears to be Staying at Spurs
It appears that there is not really any haggling to be done with Tottenham on the price and Bayern are going to have to meet the valuation if they want the 30-year-old. Spurs do risk losing Kane on a free transfer next year by playing hardball this time around as the striker is out of contract in 2024 and can depart for no fee.
Kane appears to have kept his focus amid the transfer uncertainty as he scored four goals in a 5-1 friendly win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday. Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou said that he is continuing to talk with the player and his bosses about Bayern’s pursuit of Kane and is planning to have the forward in his side this weekend unless he hears differently.
Spurs Boss Confident of Keeping Kane
‘I’m in open dialogue with Harry and with the club on a regular basis,’ said the Australian. ‘I’ve said to them that if the status quo changes then inform me. I don’t need to know about the comings and goings in between.
‘I’m working with what’s in front of me. You saw today that Harry certainly is invested in what we’re doing and we’ll keep on doing that unless something changes. There’s no doubt that I would use Harry [against Brentford]. I didn’t need today to tell me that. He’s world class. The way this team will play will help him as well. We’ll create a lot of chances for him.’
Bayern Munich Set to Move on From Kane
The Bayern Munich hierarchy are holding a meeting on Monday with transfer issues on the agenda and they will likely make a final decision on whether to make another bid for Kane or move on. It looks increasingly likely that Kane will remain at Spurs, with the club’s valuation proving too high for Bayern.
