Cristian Romero ‘good to go’ for Tottenham vs Manchester United clash

Tottenham host Manchester United on Saturday evening with both sides looking for better following their opening Premier League matches. The Red Devils beat Wolves 1-0 at Old Trafford but their performance left a lot to be desired against a side that many have predicted to go down this season. Meanwhile, Spurs played well in their first game without Harry Kane but could only manage a 2-2 draw at Brentford.

The first goal of the Postecoglou era game courtesy of Cristian Romero, who powerfully headed nodded home James Maddison’s pinpoint free-kick after just 11 minutes at the G-tech Community Stadium. However, the centre-back then had to be immediately subbed off due to a head injury sustained in an earlier collision, leaving the Argentine visibly unhappy.

Spurs undoubtedly struggled once Romero came off, so United fans will be disappointed to know that the 25-year-old has been passed fit to play against them.

Romero ‘good to go’

‘Cristian is good to go, he’s been in the hands of the medical team going through all the protocols,’ Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou said in his pre-match press conference on Friday. ‘It’s a clear defined process we needed to go through and he’s ticked all the boxes. He felt fine all week – trained and ready to go.’

Martinez fit to play some part

As for United’s injury news, Erik ten Hag has suggested that Lisandro Martinez is fit to play some part after getting subbed off at half-time against Wolves after picking up a knock. ‘He was just training [on Thursday], so I think so yeah,’ Ten Hag said when asked if Martinez was available.

The Argentine has travelled to north London, but fellow centre-back Harry Maguire was not pictured with the rest of the squad so may have picked up an injury. In his press conference, Ten Hag had sent a blunt message to the England international over his game time at Old Trafford following his collapsed transfer to West Ham.

Tottenham will be boosted by the news that Cristian Romero is fit to play against Manchester United, while Lisandro Martinez is also fit to play some part.
