Tottenham Hotspur Make Fourth Signing of the Summer with Dominic Solanke Transfer
Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of England striker Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth in a deal worth up to £65m. The initial fee is set at £55m, with an additional £10m in add-ons. Solanke, 26, has signed a contract with Spurs until 2030. This marks Tottenham’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Yang Min-hyuk, Lucas Bergvall, and Archie Gray.
The move comes as no surprise, as Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has been actively looking to strengthen his attack since the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer. Solanke’s addition to the team is expected to provide a boost to their forward line.
Solanke, who joined Bournemouth from Liverpool in 2019 for £19m, had an impressive season in 2023-24, scoring 21 goals in 42 appearances. His performances caught the attention of several clubs, including Tottenham. Liverpool is understood to have a 20% sell-on clause on any profit made by Bournemouth from his sale.
The Reading-born striker began his career at Chelsea, where he won the FA Youth Cup twice. However, he made only one senior appearance for the club and spent the 2015-16 season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem. Solanke joined Liverpool in 2017 but struggled to find consistent form, scoring just one goal in 27 appearances for the Reds.
Despite his club struggles, Solanke has had success at the international level. He was part of the England U-20 team that won the World Cup in 2017, where he was named the player of the tournament after scoring four goals.
Solanke is expected to make his debut for Tottenham in their pre-season friendly against Bayern at Tottenham Stadium on Saturday. He could then make his Premier League debut for the club in their opening game against Leicester City on August 19th.
Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake expressed his satisfaction with the transfer, saying, “It’s no surprise that a team of Tottenham’s calibre has shown an interest in Solanke.” He also praised Solanke’s professionalism throughout the process and thanked him for his contributions to Bournemouth. The club-record fee received for Solanke will undoubtedly benefit Bournemouth as they move forward.
Overall, Tottenham’s acquisition of Dominic Solanke adds depth and quality to their attacking options. With Solanke’s impressive goal-scoring record and experience with the England national team, he has the potential to make a significant impact at his new club. Spurs fans will be eagerly anticipating his debut and hoping for a successful season ahead.
