Reguilon had only just returned to action

Reguilon had already missed the first three months of the season for Atleti after undergoing groin surgery, and is now back out of action.

The 25-year-old featured for the first time against Mallorca midweek, playing 21 minutes before his latest issue occurred.

A club statement read: “Sergio Reguilón suffers from an acute digestive condition for which he had to be admitted to a hospital last night.

“The evolution of his symptoms will mark his hospital discharge.”

Growing up at Real Madrid and emerging through the club’s youth system, Reguilon impressed for Los Blancos, as well as on loan at Sevilla.

However, Madrid had too much depth at fullback for him to get regular minutes, allowing him to join Spurs in a £27.5million deal which included a buy back clause.

Reguilon quickly became a fan favourite in north London under Jose Mourinho, but fell out of favour with Antonio Conte, and was allowed to leave for Atletico.

The Spanish side are in the midst of a torrid season under Diego Simeone, out of Europe after finishing bottom of their Champions League group, and cut well adrift of the title race.
