Torres Returns to Liverpool to Assist Klopp in Preparations against Brighton
Former Liverpool forward, Fernando Torres, made a special visit to the club’s AXA Training Centre last weekend. The 40-year-old returned to Merseyside to take part in the Legends’ match against Ajax, scoring once again in front of the Kop end. Now, Torres is set to spend the weekend shadowing Jurgen Klopp and assisting in the team’s preparations for their upcoming clash against Brighton.
This is not the first time Torres has been involved in Liverpool’s activities recently. He was back on Friday to follow the team’s training sessions at their Kirkby base. Torres, who has been coaching Atletico Madrid’s U19 team since 2021, is in the early stages of his coaching career. However, he has expressed his desire to eventually step into management in senior football. Spending time with Klopp and the Liverpool team is seen as a valuable opportunity for him to learn and grow in his coaching journey.
Interestingly, after the Legends’ game last week, Torres was asked if he would like to return to Liverpool as a manager in the future. He responded cautiously, acknowledging the challenges of coaching and the differences between being a player and a coach. Torres stated, “Starting from zero, doing the right step – one at a time – I’m trying to be a coach, let’s see if I can do it. But coaching for Liverpool is a different thing, step-by-step.”
During his time at Liverpool, Torres became a fan favorite, scoring 81 goals in 142 appearances over three-and-a-half seasons. His departure for Chelsea in 2011 was met with controversy and disappointment from the Liverpool faithful. However, his return as part of the Legends team has been well-received, and he is eager to continue participating in future matches. Torres expressed his determination to improve and contribute even more next season, saying, “I do my best to train every day and to be able to come again next season and do a little bit better.”
Torres’ visit to Liverpool this weekend highlights his commitment to learning and growing in his coaching career. As he spends time observing Klopp and the team’s preparations for the Brighton match, Torres aims to gain valuable insights and experiences that will aid him in his coaching journey. While the possibility of a managerial role at Liverpool remains uncertain, Torres remains focused on taking one step at a time and making progress in his coaching aspirations.
