Following his collapse during Saturday’s Championship play-off final, Tom Lockyer expressed his gratitude towards the medical staff for their swift response. The Luton captain fell to the ground with no one else around him in the first half of the match against Coventry at Wembley, causing concern among his teammates and fans. Lockyer was immediately stretchered off and taken to hospital, but fortunately, he remained conscious throughout the ordeal.
Lockyer’s father later posted an image from the hospital showing him celebrating their penalty shootout victory, which secured their spot in the Premier League. In a statement, Lockyer thanked the physios and doctors at Luton Town FC and Wembley for their quick and thorough response. He also commiserated with Coventry City FC, who put up a fantastic fight over three games that had to be decided by penalties.
Although Lockyer is currently in the hospital under precaution, he assured everyone that he is feeling much better and will undergo further tests in the morning. He expressed his gratitude towards his teammates for leaving it all out on the pitch and making it such an honor to be part of the team. Lockyer ended his statement with a triumphant declaration of “premier league baby.”
