Todd Boehly was confronted by angry Chelsea supporters during the defeat to Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Chelsea suffered another setback in their bid to end the season on a positive note as Frank Lampard’s side were beaten 2-1 by Brighton, who dominated the majority of the second half.
Conor Gallagher had given Chelsea the lead in the first half but Brighton were level by the break through Danny Welbeck’s header.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side then stepped up a gear after the restart and having missed a series of chances, Julio Enciso’s brilliant long-range strike secured the win for the visitors.
Boehly, meanwhile, watched Chelsea’s 12th defeat in the Premier League this season from the director’s box and after the full-time whistle, supporters were seen showing their fury towards the club’s co-owner.
Speaking after Chelsea’s latest defeat which has left them 11th in the Premier League and without a win in six games, Lampard conceded that Brighton deserved their victory at Stamford Bridge.
‘I’m disappointed on every level,’ Lampard told BBC Sport.
‘The better team won. They could have won by more. They played like a team. They’ve been together a long time.
‘Not good enough. All the basic parts of football – to fight, to run – we were short on. Not a question of commitment as such. We have a big game on Tuesday [against Real Madrid]. There’s no point being too down but we have to understand why today went the way it did.
‘Some players physically couldn’t be able to play Wednesday, Saturday, Tuesday. Some of those changes were forced and some were opportunities. In a modern day squad you have to be ready to come in.
‘As a team we were short today. Where can we get better quickly? For me it’s the football basics.
‘”‘In football a story can change very quickly. Real Madrid in the Champions League is the pinnacle of football. There’s things I’ll say to the players that I’ll keep in house. Chelsea fans will be coming on Tuesday to see a team give everything to turn it round and that’s what we have to do.’
