Tiger Woods Ties Record with 24th Consecutive Cut at the Masters
Tiger Woods, the legendary golfer and five-time Masters champion, continues to make history at Augusta National. In the second round of this year’s tournament, Woods shot an even-par 72, securing his 24th consecutive cut at the Masters. This remarkable achievement surpasses the previous records held by Fred Couples and Gary Player.
Despite facing some challenges during his rounds, Woods finished at 1-over-par for the first two days of play, placing him in a tie for 27th. The top 50 players, along with those tied with them, will progress to the next stage. Woods’ consistent performance has solidified his place in this elite group.
To reach this milestone, Woods had to battle through a demanding schedule. Due to weather conditions, his first round was interrupted on Thursday and had to be completed on Friday morning. Despite the disruption, Woods maintained his focus and shot an opening-round score of 73.
During the second round, Woods showcased his skill and resilience. Starting with a front-nine score of even-par 36, he recorded three birdies, three bogeys, and three pars. The highlight of his round came on the par-3 6th hole, where he impressively chipped in from off the green for a birdie. This shot demonstrated his exceptional short game and ignited excitement among spectators.
As he progressed through the back nine, Woods continued to display his prowess. Four consecutive pars set the tone for a solid finish. Despite a bogey at the 14th hole, he responded immediately with a birdie on the next hole. His eagle-like approach shot left him with a 25-foot putt, which he executed with precision. The final three holes saw him make pars, resulting in an even-par score for the round.
In light of his performance, Woods expressed his admiration for the challenging course conditions. He acknowledged the quick greens and unpredictable wind, which required careful consideration for every shot. According to Justin Ray, this is only the second time in Woods’ career that he has hit 11 or more fairways in each of his first two rounds at the Masters. The last time this occurred was in 1999, further emphasizing the significance of this achievement.
It is worth noting that Woods has had limited tournament play leading up to the Masters. Before this event, he had played only 24 holes of competitive golf this year and had not completed 72 holes in an official tournament since February 2023. Despite these circumstances, Woods has proven that his experience and skill are unmatched.
As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Tiger Woods, eagerly anticipating his next move. With his record-breaking streak of 24 consecutive cuts at the Masters, Woods has once again solidified his place in golf history. His performance serves as a testament to his enduring talent and dedication to the sport.
