Harry Kane Could Break Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga Goal Record, Says Thomas Tuchel
Thomas Tuchel believes Harry Kane is capable of breaking Robert Lewandowski’s record for the most goals scored in a single Bundesliga season. The Polish striker bagged an incredible 41 goals for Bayern Munich in the 2020/21 season, surpassing the previous record of 40 set by the legendary Gerd Müller in 1971/72.
Kane has already managed 22 goals in his 16 Bundesliga appearances this term, at a rate of just under 1.4 goals per game. If he continues at this frequency, Kane will surpass Lewandowski’s record which was previously believed to be untouchable. In fact, Kane is already performing slightly better than Lewandowski’s record-breaking season, having reached 22 goals in 17 games.
“It is in danger. No one could ever believe that would be in danger, but it is in danger,” Tuchel told ESPN. “We need a bit of luck. We need the team to keep going, Harry needs to be fit, and then we see what’s coming… I clearly think that for Harry there are no limits.”
Kane has managed three hat-tricks already for Bayern Munich this season, including back-to-back against Darmstadt and Borussia Dortmund. Alongside his 22 goals, he has also provided five assists for his teammates. His 27 goal involvements at this stage of the season are the highest ever recorded in the Bundesliga since detailed data collection began in 1992/93.
“It’s just a gift, honestly, to be his coach,” Tuchel added. “I feel very privileged. He’s super humble. He’s the first out there on the pitch every single day. What you ever ask of him he will do it. He is that huge personality that is so humble and then becomes a shark – a shark on the field, because he is up for goals, he’s up for winning.”
Alongside his Bundesliga goalscoring exploits, Kane has also scored four goals in the Champions League as Bayern finished top of Group A.
