Brentford Manager Thomas Frank Prepared for Ivan Toney’s January Transfer
Brentford manager Thomas Frank is refusing to rule out the possibility of losing star striker Ivan Toney in the January transfer window. Both Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Toney, who is currently serving an eight-month ban after he accepted 232 breaches of the Football Association’s rules on betting.
Reports this week have claimed that Arsenal are planning to submit a bid in the next window, while Chelsea are also keeping tabs on the situation as they plan to bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s squad with a central striker. It’s understood that Brentford are demanding at least £80 million for Toney, who scored 20 Premier League goals last season.
When asked what he expects to happen in the next transfer window, Frank replied: ‘In January? I don’t know. The only thing I’m focusing on is the game tomorrow [against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup]. As you know we are preparing for transfer windows ahead. Of course, we are not only looking not only at striker options or full-back, we are prepared for any position if something should happen.
‘I think it’s also fair to say that if we wanted a striker in the summer we could’ve tried to get one, we got one in Neal [Maupay], you could say that, so, yeah, let’s see.’
Frank is confident that Brentford will be able to cope with Toney’s potential departure and is already preparing for the January transfer window. The club has already signed Neal Maupay as a potential replacement and is looking at other options as well.
The 27-year-old Toney has been one of the most prolific strikers in the Premier League this season and his departure would be a huge blow for Brentford. However, Frank is confident that the club will be able to cope with his departure and is already making plans for the January transfer window.
Toney’s potential move to either Arsenal or Chelsea would be a huge boost for both clubs as they look to strengthen their squads for next season. Both clubs have been linked with Toney in recent weeks and it remains to be seen if either side will make a move for him in January.
