Thiago Silva has backed Carlo Ancelotti to become Brazil’s new head coach amid uncertainty over his Real Madrid future.

The Selecao are still on the lookout for Tite’s permanent successor after his departure following December’s shock World Cup quarter-final defeat against Croatia.

For the first time in their history, Brazil are contemplating hiring a foreign coach with the likes of Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho reported to be under consideration.

Thiago worked with the vastly experienced Italian during their time together at AC Milan, as well as PSG, and is the latest high-profile Brazilian to champion Ancelotti’s cause.

‘Being honest, I would love it to be him, because of the friendship we have and the understanding,’ Silva told TJ Sports USA.

‘He was my first coach in Europe, at Milan. What he has done throughout his career shows he is ready.’

‘I don’t know if I’ll be a part of the Brazil team, but I’d love him to accept the offer and make the team play the way he wants football to be played.’

Ancelotti has also been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge where Chelsea are currently in the process of hiring Graham Potter’s replacement.

The 63-year-old still has over 12 months remaining on his current contract and earlier this week insisted he was hopeful of honouring that commitment despite his side all but having surrendered the Spanish league title to arch-rivals Barcelona.

‘I think so,’ Ancelotti recently said when asked if he feels backed by the Real Madrid board.

‘The president has always been very affectionate with me and he still is.

‘We have to look forward. We will be here next season without a doubt because we are going to respect the contract.’
