Thiago Silva Encourages Paulo Dybala to Join Chelsea in Potential “Massive Signing”
Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has revealed that he has spoken to Paulo Dybala about the possibility of the Argentine forward moving to Stamford Bridge this summer. Reports in Italy have linked Chelsea with a swoop for Dybala, who has a release clause in his Roma contract allowing him to join teams outside of Serie A for just €12 million (£10m). Mauricio Pochettino, who is known to be a big fan of his compatriot, has previously tried to sign Dybala at both Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain.
Dybala, who is currently on holiday in England, has been attending major sporting events, including meeting Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon and watching the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. It was at the Formula 1 race that Silva bumped into Dybala and encouraged him to make the move to Chelsea. Speaking to Sky Sport Italia on the grid walk, Silva said, “I saw Paulo Dybala here, they [the media] talk about him coming to Chelsea. I’ve talked with him and asked him if he is coming. He is a world-class player.”
Silva expressed his excitement at the prospect of playing alongside Dybala, calling it a “massive signing.” He also briefly mentioned the possibility of Christian Pulisic moving to AC Milan, saying that Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek would do well at the Italian club.
While Dybala’s season was disrupted by injury, he still had a strong campaign, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in 26 Serie A appearances. He also scored five goals on the way to the Europa League final. The 29-year-old forward, who has also won the World Cup, joined Roma on a free transfer under Jose Mourinho, who would be reluctant to lose such an important player.
When asked about the speculation surrounding Dybala, Mourinho replied, “I don’t know anything about his contract. But obviously I talk to Paulo like I do with all of my players.” Chelsea, who were among the lowest scorers in the Premier League last season, averaging just one goal per game, have already made some signings this summer, including Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku. However, Pochettino is keen to add more firepower to his squad.
If Dybala were to join Chelsea, it would be a significant boost for the club’s attacking options. Known for his technical ability, creativity, and goal-scoring prowess, Dybala would provide a much-needed spark to Chelsea’s frontline. His versatility would also be an asset, as he is capable of playing as a central striker or in a wider attacking role.
The potential signing of Dybala would not only benefit Chelsea on the pitch but also enhance their global appeal. With his international reputation and fan following, Dybala’s arrival at Stamford Bridge would generate excitement among supporters and attract attention from around the world.
As the transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be successful in their pursuit of Dybala. However, with the encouragement from Silva and the interest from Pochettino, it seems that the club is determined to make a strong push for the Argentine forward. If they are able to secure his signature, it could prove to be a game-changer for Chelsea’s ambitions in the upcoming season.
