Five-Star Safety Xavier Filsaime Commits to Texas
McKinney (Texas) High’s highly sought-after five-star safety, Xavier Filsaime, has announced his decision to flip from Florida to Texas. This addition strengthens the Longhorns’ 2024 recruiting class, which already boasts several in-state stars. Here’s everything you need to know:
Filsaime’s Impressive Rankings
- Xavier Filsaime is currently ranked as the No. 30 overall player and the No. 2 safety in the country according to the 247Sports Composite.
A Change of Heart
Despite being committed to Florida since April, Filsaime recently took an official visit to Texas. Following his visit, he made the decision to change his recruitment and commit to the Longhorns.
Texas’ Strong Recruiting Class
With Filsaime’s commitment, Texas now has a total of 22 commitments in its 2024 class. This includes four five-star prospects and six top-100 players in the country. The Longhorns’ recruiting class currently ranks fifth in the nation.
Impact on Texas’ Defense
The addition of Filsaime is a significant boost for Texas’ secondary. Combined with the recent commitment of four-star cornerback Kobe Black, the Longhorns have made substantial strides in strengthening their defensive lineup. Both Filsaime and Black are highly regarded in-state prospects, aligning with Steve Sarkisian’s long-term plan for the program.
Florida’s Recruiting Setback
Filsaime’s departure is another blow to Florida’s recruiting efforts. The team rankings are expected to drop, and they may fall out of the top-10 by Wednesday. Filsaime is the fifth blue-chip recruit to decommit from Florida since November, joining other notable prospects who have chosen different schools.
What Lies Ahead for Florida
While some top recruits have reaffirmed their commitment to Florida, there are still uncertainties. Defensive lineman Amaris Williams is predicted to flip to Ohio State, and linebacker Adarius Hayes recently visited Miami. The Gators will need to work hard to maintain their recruiting momentum.
