Houston Texans Quarterback C.J. Stroud Likely to Miss Game Against Cleveland Browns
Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is expected to sit out Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns as he remains in concussion protocol, according to multiple reports. Stroud sustained the concussion during the fourth quarter of the team’s Week 14 loss to the New York Jets when he was tackled forcefully by defensive lineman Quinnen Williams.
Stroud did not participate in practice or travel with the team for their overtime victory against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. In his absence, veteran quarterback Case Keenum stepped in as the starter and delivered a solid performance, completing 23 of 36 passes for 229 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Stroud has been a standout rookie this season and is currently the frontrunner for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. He leads all rookies in passing yards with 3,631 and has thrown 20 touchdowns with only five interceptions.
The Texans, who are currently tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts for the top spot in the AFC South with an 8-6 record, are still in contention for a playoff spot.
Impact on the Texans
With Stroud sidelined, the Texans will once again rely on Keenum, a seasoned veteran who proved his capabilities in their recent win against the Titans. Stroud’s absence may also result in an increased workload for running back Devin Singletary, who had an impressive performance last week with 121 rushing yards on 26 carries. The team’s balanced offense and strong defensive effort were key factors in their crucial victory.
