Erik ten Hag Pleased with Manchester United’s FA Cup Victory over Wigan
Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance after their 2-0 win against Wigan in the FA Cup. Despite a nervous start, with goalkeeper Andre Onana making an early save, the Red Devils comfortably secured their place in the fourth round.
The victory also means that Manchester United will face either Newport or Eastleigh in the next round, providing them with a favorable draw. Diogo Dalot opened the scoring for United, followed by Bruno Fernandes converting a penalty in the second half.
After the match, Ten Hag gave a simple team talk to his players, stating, “The FA Cup is all about winning, it is knockout. You want to finish the job. That is what I said in the dressing room, ‘job done’.”
Although pleased with the result, Ten Hag acknowledged that his team could have capitalized on more opportunities. Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, and Scott McTominay all missed golden chances to make the win more comfortable.
Reflecting on the missed opportunities, Ten Hag commented, “In the first half, I think we created five or six very good chances. I think it was very good football. We should have taken more, but if you don’t score, you have to stay focused, and I think we did that tonight.”
Looking ahead, Manchester United will now shift their focus back to the Premier League as they prepare to face Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday. Ten Hag emphasized the importance of securing a victory in their battle for a place in Europe next season.
When asked about their chances of winning the FA Cup, Ten Hag remained cautious and stated, “It is too far. You have to go game to game, especially in the Cup. Our focus is on Spurs now.”
