Kieran Tierney Linked with Loan Move Away from Arsenal
Kieran Tierney, the Scottish left-back, has been linked with a loan return to Celtic this summer. However, it is reported that the enquiry for Tierney’s services did not come from Celtic. Real Sociedad, a Spanish club, has shown interest in the defender and has been monitoring him throughout the summer.
Tierney recently made an appearance as a substitute in Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Manchester City. Despite his contribution to the team, it seems that Tierney may have limited opportunities for regular playing time this season. Oleksandr Zinchenko is currently ahead of him on the depth chart at left-back, and the recent signing of Jurrien Timber from Ajax for £34 million has further added competition for the position.
Although Timber primarily played as a centre-back in the Netherlands, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has experimented with him at left-back during pre-season matches. However, Arteta has assured Tierney that he still has a future at the club.
Even before Timber’s arrival, Tierney was linked with a move to Newcastle United, with the hope of securing regular first-team football. Aston Villa also emerged as contenders for his signature, with their current manager Unai Emery being the one who brought Tierney to the Premier League in 2019.
Earlier reports suggested that Tierney would consider a return to Celtic if they made an offer for him on a one-year loan deal. However, it appears that Celtic may face competition in their pursuit of the full-back.
Real Sociedad’s enquiry about Tierney indicates their interest in strengthening their squad ahead of their first Champions League campaign in a decade. The Spanish club finished fourth in La Liga last season and sees Tierney as a valuable addition to their team.
Interestingly, if the move to Real Sociedad materializes, Tierney would be reunited with former Rangers player Umar Sadiq. Sadiq, a Nigerian striker, had an unsuccessful loan spell at Rangers from Roma. However, he impressed during subsequent spells at Partizan Belgrade and Almeria, earning himself a £17 million move to the Anoeta Stadium.
While Tierney’s future remains uncertain, it is clear that there are multiple clubs interested in securing his services. Whether he stays at Arsenal or moves to another club on loan, Tierney’s talent and potential are highly regarded in the football world.
