Michael Beale Set to Become Sunderland’s New Manager
According to reports, Michael Beale is expected to be appointed as the new manager of Sunderland. The Championship side was initially linked with Reims boss Will Still, but it seems they have now reached an agreement with Beale.
Sunderland chiefs reportedly held talks with the 31-year-old earlier this week but decided against signing him. However, it seems they have now reconsidered and reached an agreement with Beale.
Beale, the former Rangers boss, was rumored to be a “secret” candidate on Sunderland’s shortlist. He was sacked by the Scottish side in October following a poor start to the season.
Prior to his role at Ibrox, Beale managed Queens Park Rangers for five months. He will now replace Tony Mowbray, who was sacked earlier this month. Academy coach Mike Dodds has been appointed as the caretaker boss in the meantime.
Sunderland had a successful run under Mowbray’s guidance, reaching the Championship play-offs but losing 3-2 on aggregate to Luton in the semi-finals. Currently, they sit sixth in the league table with 33 points from 21 games.
