Sunderland Footballer Jack Diamond Denies Rape Allegations in Court
Sunderland winger Jack Diamond, 23, who is currently facing rape charges, testified in court that he had refused to engage in sexual activity with the alleged victim. According to Diamond, the woman became upset when he asked her to stop after she “got on top of him.”
Diamond, who had been in a long-term relationship prior to the incident, explained that he felt things were becoming too serious and decided to decline her advances. He later kissed her in an attempt to comfort her, but she responded by saying, “I think the moment has gone,” and left.
The alleged assault took place at Diamond’s residence, which he shared with his teammate Anthony Patterson. The footballer met the woman on the dating site Tinder.
During his testimony, Diamond expressed regret for his immaturity in past relationships. He admitted to feeling remorseful about his actions at the time of the incident.
Diamond, who hails from Washington, Tyne & Wear, has pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and assault by penetration at Newcastle Crown Court. The trial is ongoing.
