Sunderland Reportedly Approaches Kim Hellberg for Managerial Position
Sunderland Football Club has reportedly approached Kim Hellberg as they search for a new manager, according to recent reports. The decision to part ways with Tony Mowbray, despite being just three points behind the play-off places, came as a surprise to many.
The team has only managed to win one of their last five games, leading to Mowbray’s departure. Mowbray, who led the club to the play-off semi-final last year, lost to Luton Town, who are now in the Premier League.
While academy coach Mike Dodds is currently in temporary charge, Sunderland has reportedly held talks with Kim Hellberg. The 35-year-old coach recently led IFK Varnamo to a fifth-place finish in the Swedish top-flight before resigning to seek new challenges.
Hellberg is highly regarded in the coaching world and has been linked with other managerial positions, including the job at Hammarby, who recently lost their manager Marti Cifuentes to QPR.
Kim Hellberg’s Coaching Journey
Hellberg’s coaching career began when he achieved success with Kimstad Golf in the fifth tier. He then moved on to Kuddby IF, where he won two promotions in three years. His impressive track record eventually led him to the Swedish equivalent of the Championship and Premier League.
Sunderland is also considering Reims manager Will Still and Nice assistant Julien Sable for the managerial position.
