Sunderland Shortlist Includes Will Still as Potential New Manager
Will Still, the head coach of Reims, is among the names being considered for the vacant manager position at Sunderland, according to talkSPORT. Still, a 31-year-old with a strong reputation in the game, is regarded as one of the hottest young bosses in football.
However, the potential compensation required to release Still from his contract could pose a challenge for Sunderland.
Julian Sable, the assistant boss of Nice, is also being considered for the position.
The Fascinating Profile of Will Still
Will Still has one of the most intriguing profiles in football. He revealed that playing the computer game Football Manager convinced him to pursue a career in coaching and management at the age of 17, abandoning his aspirations as a player.
Starting as a video analyst and assistant manager, the Belgian-born British coach eventually secured his breakthrough with Belgian side Beerschot. In 2021, he joined Reims as the assistant manager to Oscar Garcia before taking over as the manager and leading the team to a fifth-place finish in Ligue 1 last season.
Sunderland’s Search for a New Manager
Sunderland is in search of a young and promising coach to replace Tony Mowbray, who was dismissed on Monday. Mowbray had a 15-month tenure at the club and guided them to the Championship play-offs in their first season back in the second tier. However, they fell short against Luton in the semi-finals, with Luton ultimately earning promotion to the Premier League.
