Steven Gerrard Praises England Star Better Than Him at Same Age

Date:

Jude Bellingham has received high praise from Steven Gerrard, who has said that the Dortmund star is “far better” than he was at the same age. The 19-year-old midfielder produced another solid display as England comfortably beat Ukraine in their Euro 2020 quarter-final match. Bellingham was also one of the stars of the show in the Three Lions’ brilliant first-half display and win against Italy earlier this week.

After the game, Bellingham joined Channel 4’s TV pundits to discuss the match. Alongside Gerrard was England Euros winner Jill Scott, Ukraine’s Andriy Shevchenko and Joe Cole. Bellingham could not hide his glee at being stood next to Liverpool legend Gerrard, who he has previously cited as a role model.

In response to Bellingham’s admiration, Gerrard said: “Let me tell you right now that you’re a lot further ahead than I was at your age so you’re heading in the right direction.” Gerrard went on to joke that Bellingham had a better body than he did at 19, prompting laughter from Bellingham and his fellow pundits.

Liverpool fans were quick to pick up on the respectful interaction between the pair, with Bellingham linked with the Reds amid frenzied transfer speculation. One fan said: “Bellingham flirting with Liverpool again, with agent Gerrard in attendance.” Another added: “Liverpool fans will enjoy this… any doubt that Jude Bellingham admirers Steven Gerrard and Liverpool dispelled here. This kid is so impressive on and off the pitch.”

Bellingham continues to impress for both club and country. He was one of the star players in the Qatar World Cup and has scored 10 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund this season. His performances have led to speculation about a potential move to Liverpool, but for now, Bellingham is focused on helping England win their first major tournament since 1966.
