Reports suggest that Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is being lined up for a return to football management with Leicester City. Gerrard lost his job as Aston Villa manager in October, after a 3-0 defeat to Fulham left them 17th in the Premier League, three points from bottom. He has also previously managed Rangers, guiding them to Scottish Premiership glory in 2020-21. The 43-year-old is now being linked to the Leicester City job following their relegation from the Premier League to the Championship. There is a ‘strong chance’ Gerrard will become the next manager of the Foxes, according to The Sun, despite Leeds United also being reportedly interested. It is thought that Gerrard is keen to step back into management and could be boosted by having Leicester legend Gary McAllister among his backroom staff.
Leicester, Premier League champions in 2016 and FA Cup winners in 2021, are looking to return to the top-flight at the first attempt following their shock relegation. The club will require somewhat of a rebuild with several star players expected to leave this summer, including James Maddison and Youri Tielemans who has confirmed he will leave on a free transfer. If Gerrard does take the job, he will have the difficult task of leading Leicester back to the Premier League.
