Steve McManaman expects Paul Pogba to leave Manchester United this summer but says he won’t be joining another Premier League club as he ‘wouldn’t improve’ Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester City.

Pogba looks set to leave the Red Devils as a free agent at the end of the season as talks over a new contract at Old Trafford have stalled.

Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have expressed interest in signing Pogba and McManaman believes the France international’s future lies outside of England as he ‘wouldn’t improve’ any of United’s big domestic rivals.

Pogba has scored 29 goals and made 37 assists in 150 Premier League appearances but has often been accused of lacking the consistency of the world’s best players.

Former England winger McManaman told ‘If Paul Pogba was to make a move to one of Manchester United’s Premier League rivals, I wouldn’t be shocked…. I would be incredibly shocked!

‘If it was Manchester City, Chelsea, or Liverpool I would be amazed, far more than shocked. Why would you?

‘Is Paul Pogba going to improve Manchester City’s team? No. He wouldn’t improve Liverpool’s either. Probably not Chelsea’s, the way they play.

‘Paul Pogba’s form for Manchester United over the past five years hasn’t been good enough to reflect that he can go and play for Manchester City or Liverpool.

‘His reputation is excellent, of course it is. But his reputation is in the France shirt and Juventus shirt. It’s not in the Manchester United shirt. His style of play is too slow for Man City or Liverpool.’

With Pogba seemingly on his way out of Old Trafford, McManaman says a move to PSG makes ‘absolute perfect sense’.

The French champions have been repeatedly linked with Pogba in recent years and the 28-year-old is said to be keen to work under the legendary Zinedine Zidane, who has been tipped to take over at PSG this summer.

McManaman added: ‘PSG fits. The way they play. They’ve got [Ander] Herrera. They’ve got [Marco] Verratti. They’ve got Idrissa Gueye.

‘A Frenchman. Going back to PSG. On a free contract. It makes absolute perfect sense to me.’

Manchester United boosted their top-four hopes with a thrilling 4-2 win over Leeds United on Sunday. Ralf Rangnick’s side face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
