Tottenham Hotspur Nearing Deal for Genoa’s Radu Dragusin, Djed Spence Offered on Loan
Tottenham Hotspur is on the verge of signing Genoa defender Radu Dragusin, with Djed Spence being offered to the Italian club on loan as part of the deal. The Athletic reported last week that Tottenham was in talks with Genoa over a move for Dragusin and now they are close to finalizing the transfer after submitting a £25 million offer, including add-ons.
Spence recently returned to Spurs after his loan spell at Championship club Leeds United was cut short due to a knee injury. He only managed to make seven appearances in the Championship before the injury occurred.
The signing of a central defender was a top priority for Spurs during this transfer window, and Dragusin was considered alongside Lloyd Kelly, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Jean-Clair Todibo as potential options.
Tottenham’s first-choice center-backs, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, have been dealing with injuries and suspensions in the first half of the season. This has forced head coach Ange Postecoglou to use full-backs Ben Davies and Emerson Royal out of position. Eric Dier, on the other hand, has fallen out of favor and has only made four league appearances this season.
Dragusin has been a regular in Genoa’s Serie A team this season, with the club currently sitting 12th in the table. He played a crucial role in their promotion from Serie B last season, featuring in all 38 league matches after initially joining on loan from Juventus in 2022. Prior to that, Dragusin had loan spells at Sampdoria and Salernitana.
The 21-year-old has also been capped 13 times by Romania and is expected to feature for his country at Euro 2024 after they secured qualification last year.
In conclusion, Tottenham Hotspur is closing in on the signing of Radu Dragusin from Genoa, with Djed Spence potentially going on loan in the opposite direction. This move will strengthen Spurs’ defense and provide depth in the central defender position.
