Southampton manager Ruben Selles was left disappointed following his side’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace. The Saints had a difficult evening at St Mary’s Stadium, with Palace taking the lead through Wilfried Zaha in the first half. The visitors then doubled their advantage in the second half, with Jordan Ayew scoring the decisive goal.
Speaking after the match, Selles said his side were in a “difficult position” and were “hurting already”. He admitted that his team had not been able to create enough chances to get back into the game and that they had been punished for their mistakes.
The Southampton boss also praised Palace for their performance, saying they had been well organised and had taken their chances when they came. He added that his team needed to learn from their mistakes and move on quickly.
Selles also said that his side needed to focus on the positives and look to build on their recent good form. He added that he was confident his team could still finish the season strongly and that they would be looking to bounce back in their next game.
Overall, Selles was clearly disappointed with the result but he remained positive about his team’s prospects for the rest of the season. He will now be hoping that his side can put this defeat behind them and get back to winning ways soon.
