Southampton 0-1 Newcastle LIVE REACTION: Joelinton scores winner as Magpies take huge step towards place at Wembley after Adam Armstrong’s late equaliser is disallowed

Newcastle travel to the south coast tonight to face Southampton with dreams of making it to Wembley.

The Magpies haven’t been in a domestic cup final since the 1998/99 campaign, but playing the Saints over a two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final looks like a brilliant chance to end that run.

The Toon have the best defensive record in the top-flight and Nick Pope hasn’t conceded a goal in his last nine games.

Meanwhile, Southampton appear to have hit a bit of form under Nathan Jones and have won three of their last four as they look to return to Wembley.

The Saints reached the 2016/17 Carabao Cup final but were beaten 3-2 by Manchester United.

    • Carabao Cup semi-final first leg to kick-off at 8pm.
    • Southampton XI: Bazunu, Walker-Peters, Lyanco, Caleta-Car, Salisu, Diallo, Alcaraz, Ward-Prowse, Djenepo, Orsic, Mara.
