Southampton 0-0 Newcastle LIVE: Joelinton has goal ruled out before ‘terrible miss’ from close range in Carabao Cup semi-final as in-form Magpies push for opener at St Mary’s

Newcastle travel to the south coast tonight to face Southampton with dreams of making it to Wembley.

The Magpies haven’t been in a domestic cup final since the 1998/99 campaign, but playing the Saints over a two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final looks like a brilliant chance to end that run.

The Toon have the best defensive record in the top-flight and Nick Pope hasn’t conceded a goal in his last nine games.

Meanwhile, Southampton appear to have hit a bit of form under Nathan Jones and have won three of their last four as they look to return to Wembley.

The Saints reached the 2016/17 Carabao Cup final but were beaten 3-2 by Manchester United.

    • Carabao Cup semi-final first leg to kick-off at 8pm.
    • Southampton XI: Bazunu, Walker-Peters, Lyanco, Caleta-Car, Salisu, Diallo, Alcaraz, Ward-Prowse, Djenepo, Orsic, Mara.
    • Subs: Caballero, Bednarek, Perraud, Lavia, Maitland-Niles, Edozie, Elyounoussi, Armstrong, Adams.
    • Newcastle XI: Pope, Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn, Guimaraes, Longstaff, Willock, Almiron, Joelinton, Wilson.
