Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Frame for Leicester City Manager Job
The former Premier League champions Leicester City are on the hunt for a new manager after their relegation from the top flight on the final day of the season. Interim boss Dean Smith is unlikely to stay on as manager, and the club are now considering a number of candidates for the role. One of those candidates is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is out of work since leaving Manchester United in November 2021.
Solskjaer’s Career
Solskjaer has had a long and varied career in management, beginning with two stints in charge of Molde in his native Norway. He then had a brief spell with Cardiff City in 2014 which saw the Welsh side relegated to the Championship. His most recent job was at Manchester United, where he was appointed in December 2018 and lasted 168 games, 91 of which he won.
Leicester’s Rebuild
Whoever takes the role at Leicester will be going through a rebuilding process in the second tier, as they are expected to sell key players after relegation from the top flight. James Maddison is certain to leave, with the likes of Newcastle and Tottenham interested, while Harvey Barnes is also very likely to return to the Premier League immediately, with West Ham keen on him. Youri Tielemans has already left for Aston Villa on a free transfer, while the likes of Caglar Soyuncu, Ayoze Perez, Daniel Amartey and Ryan Bertrand could all follow suit.
Other Candidates
Leicester are also thought to be considering former Bournemouth and Fulham boss Scott Parker and Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca, while Steven Gerrard was also considered but he is set for Saudi side Al-Ettifaq.
Conclusion
Leicester City are in the process of searching for a new manager and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is one of the names in the frame. The Norwegian has had a long and varied career in management, most recently at Manchester United, and he could be set for a return to England if he gets the job at Leicester. Whoever takes the role will have to go through a rebuilding process as they look to get back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
