Rocco Commisso, President of Italian club Fiorentina, has accused West Ham of treating his players like “animals” in their Europa Conference League final success. Striker Luca Jovic had to be substituted at half-time due to a broken nose, and left-back Cristiano Biraghi was left with a bloody face after being hit by an object thrown from the crowd. Despite this, West Ham managed to secure the trophy with a late winner from Jarrod Bowen, ending a 43-year wait for a trophy.
Commisso expressed his disappointment in the match, saying that he expected to win but that the referee had to make the difference. He also stated that the president of the Premier League should take action against West Ham for their treatment of Fiorentina’s players. Fiorentina also strongly condemned the incident involving Biraghi and stated that they were certain Uefa would punish those responsible and set an example so that similar situations don’t occur again.
Police reported that 23 fans were arrested in Prague, with one being a West Ham fan and the other 22 being Fiorentina fans. 17 of the 22 Fiorentina fans were detained after attacking West Ham fans in a bar in central Prague.
