Mister ALEX FERGUSON dubbed themself and assistant Archie Knox “two bad cops” over his strict training techniques.
The legendary Manchester U . s . manager and the right-hands man labored together when Ferguson first required control of the club in 1986 to 1991.
Talking with The Telegraph, Knox revealed the way the duo implemented discipline around the squad.
He shared a tale about how then captain Bryan Robson complained to Ferguson that Knox required all players return for any second work out afterwards because the first on that day wasn’t adequate.
He described how Mister Alex toughly responded: “If Archie stated return for 2 o’clock, return for 2 o’clock. Finish of story.”
Knox, 75, ongoing: “In the finish of this session I’d just booted the balls away and stated to John, ‘I am not f*****g getting this, right. This can’t be Manchester United’s training.’
“I understood that Alex would respond this way. We’d not be one facing another.
“Alex always stated that within our situation it had been ‘two bad cops’.
“If Alex gave them stick I certainly wouldn’t be putting a leg on their own shoulder. Should you lay the floor rules from the beginning, players respond.
“We’d train at 10:30am during the cold months and when anybody was late they’d the penalty of the couple of laps round the training field. You’d hear the cars screeching in to the carpark right before we began.”
