Newcastle United secured their place in next season’s Champions League with a 0-0 draw against Leicester, and club legend Alan Shearer couldn’t resist taking a dig at both his friend Gary Lineker and Newcastle’s rivals Sunderland. Shearer started his evening by tweeting Lineker, who is famously a Leicester City fan, asking if he got excited when his team crossed the halfway line due to their ultra-defensive play. After the full-time whistle, Shearer took to social media once again to celebrate Newcastle’s achievement, tweeting “Champions League anybody” with a series of clapping hands and hearts. Later in the evening, he poked fun at Sunderland with the message “Have you ever seen a Mackem in Milan?” Overall, it’s a wonderful time for Newcastle supporters, who will be playing in Europe’s biggest competition for the first time in 20 years.
