Luke Shaw, the Manchester United full-back, has been trying to convince his England teammates Harry Kane and Declan Rice to join the Red Devils this summer. The England squad has been using United’s Carrington HQ ahead of their Euro qualifier with North Macedonia at Old Trafford on Monday. Shaw posted pictures on Instagram suggesting he was giving Kane and Rice a VIP tour of the facilities and admitted he would love them to join United. While Shaw’s efforts have not gone unnoticed by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate, he said he couldn’t do anything about players tapping each other up on the quiet.
Kane, Tottenham’s record 280-goal scorer, is a target for United gaffer Erik ten Hag, who is a massive fan. However, Spurs would need a mega offer to persuade them to sell. West Ham’s £110m-rated midfield star Rice is also on United’s radar, although he has set his heart on Arsenal. Shaw said he didn’t know what was going on at their clubs but would take them in a heartbeat if it was down to him. He added that there was a lot of talk and banter because of the time of the season.
Shaw, who has spent the last nine years at Old Trafford, is sure United are back on track after a tricky few years. He said it was only a matter of time until they were challenging for the big trophies. Shaw also spoke about taking his pal Harry Maguire’s place, saying it was tough but there was no awkwardness as Maguire understood the manager likes a left-footed centre-back. Another player being tried in a new position is Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been moved into midfield for both club and country. He impressed in Friday’s 4-0 win over Malta, and Southgate said he wouldn’t hesitate to play him there again.
