Shaun Wright-Phillips has endorsed Chelsea’s moves for Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde but has concerns over a deal for Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele.

Chelsea’s new owners are expected to spend around £200m on new signings this summer, with Thomas Tuchel hoping to sign a new forward, midfielder and centre back.

The Blues were being tipped to challenge for the Premier League title this time last year after winning the Champions League and bringing Romelu Lukaku to Stamford Bridge in a deal worth almost £100m.

But a title challenge failed to materialise, with Chelsea failing to keep pace with Manchester City and Liverpool and ultimately finishing 19 points behind Pep Guardiola’s side.

Wright-Phillips says Poland striker Lewandowski and France defender Kounde would be shrewd signings for Chelsea, although he has doubts over wantaway Barcelona forward Dembele.

‘Jules Kounde would be a good signing for Chelsea, he’s young and a very talented defender,’ Wright-Phillips told Genting Casino.

‘But Chelsea sold Fikayo Tomori who’s a similar age and I think he barely gave the ball away all season at AC Milan and I just wonder why you would go and buy a player of a similar age, why not just keep the talent you’ve made?

‘If Kounde does sign for Chelsea, he’ll have big boots to fill after Antonio Rudiger’s exit.

‘With Robert Lewandowski, he would be the perfect replacement for Romelu Lukaku if Lukaku does leave.

‘No matter what team he plays in, he always scores goals. Chelsea would just have to make sure they play to his strengths.’

Wright-Phillips, who spent three seasons at Stamford Bridge, added: ‘Ousmane Dembele is a fantastic footballer.

‘It’s just about whether his body can handle the physicality of the Premier League and if he can play a consistent run of games because he’s had so many injuries. If Chelsea can keep him fit then he’ll be a massive player for them.’
