Scotland’s Euro 2024 missionScotland have a long way to go before they can start planning their summer holiday in Germany, but the start of their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign has been nothing short of perfect. The Tartan Army will be hoping that the team can keep up their impressive form and secure their place at the tournament.
Scotland’s Perfect Start to Euro 2024 Qualifying Campaign
The Tartan Army is buzzing with excitement after Scotland’s perfect start to their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign. With twelve points from a possible twelve, Steve Clarke’s team have set a record start for the men’s national side. Victory over Georgia ensured Scotland began their qualifying campaign with a fourth straight win, and Clarke is confident that they are on the right track to qualify for the tournament.
Callum McGregor’s Opener at Hampden
By the time the Tartan Army eventually got home from Hampden on Tuesday, a fair few would have spent the rest of their night trawling through flight comparison websites. But before they could get too excited about booking their tickets to Germany, Scotland had to secure victory over Georgia. Callum McGregor’s opener sent a sodden Tartan Army rocking, and Ryan Porteous said Scotland were “a little startled” when the game kicked off again. However, they quickly regained their focus and Scott McTominay crashed in a fifth goal in four international games to ensure Scotland’s perfect start to their qualifying campaign.
Torrential Rainfall Throws Game Into Jeopardy
Torrential rainfall made the Hampden pitch unplayable, with the teams called in just moments after McGregor’s opener. After what felt like umpteen delays, pitch inspections and warm-ups, the game eventually restarted in front of a patient home crowd that stuck with their team every step of the way. Billy Gilmour said it was “a crazy night” and praised Scotland’s togetherness as they stuck together and got the three points.
Georgia’s Unwillingness to Fulfil Fixture
It wasn’t just the Scottish summer rain that threw the contest into jeopardy, but also Georgia’s unwillingness to fulfil the fixture. At one stage, it looked like the away side were refusing to come back out on to the pitch. Georgia boss Willy Sagnol denied those claims, though, and criticised Uefa by claiming his players had been treated as “objects” at Hampden.
Scotland’s Euro 2024 Mission
Scotland have a long way to go before they can start planning their summer holiday in Germany, but the start of their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign has been nothing short of perfect. The second half of the campaign is three tough away games and a difficult home game against Norway, so Clarke is urging his team to keep picking up points as often as they can and then tally up at the end of the group to see if they’ve made it. The Tartan Army will be hoping that the team can keep up their impressive form and secure their place at the tournament.
