Paul Scholes, a former Manchester United player, has expressed his doubts about Harry Kane’s potential move to the club. Kane, who is currently playing for Tottenham Hotspur, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer. However, Scholes believes that the striker is unlikely to leave Spurs and that pursuing him would be a risk for his former club.
Kane’s contract with Tottenham is set to expire in 2024, which could see the north London club cash in on him while they can. Bayern Munich has also been touted as a possible destination for the England captain. However, Scholes does not think that Kane wants to leave Tottenham and recognises how difficult Spurs chairman Daniel Levy can be to negotiate with.
Scholes also sees Kane’s age as an issue, as the centre-forward turns 30 in July. He admits that United need goals and that Kane would certainly solve that problem if they could get him. However, he believes that it would be a risk for United to put all their eggs in the Harry Kane basket, as they might end up with no one if Daniel Levy is messing them about.
“I think goals are a problem, [United are] a long way behind City and Arsenal at the top of the table goals wise,” Scholes said on BT Sport. “I think Harry is very happy where he is. If he was going to move it would have been to Man City a couple of years ago. He would be fantastic, 25 goals guaranteed, but it’s very difficult for him to move at 30 years of age. It’s a risk as well for Man Utd, if you put all your eggs in that Harry Kane basket and all of a sudden Daniel Levy is messing you about, you might end up with no one. If you get him early, brilliant, but I just think he’s very happy at Tottenham doing what he’s doing.”
Despite Scholes’ doubts, Kane’s potential move to Manchester United remains a hot topic in the football world. The Red Devils are in desperate need of a striker, and Kane is one of the best in the world. However, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will be willing to sell their star player, and if they do, whether Manchester United will be able to meet their asking price.
In the meantime, Kane will be focused on leading England to glory at the European Championships this summer. The Three Lions are one of the favourites to win the tournament, and Kane will be hoping to add to his impressive goal-scoring record for his country.
