San Marino’s Professional Match History: Minnows Start Euro 2024 Qualification vs. Northern Ireland

Date:

San Marino will begin their Euro 2024 qualification campaign against Northern Ireland on Thursday. The team, known as La Serenissima, has a long history of struggling in international football, having lost 185 out of their 195 fixtures since their creation in 1987. They have only scored 28 goals and conceded a staggering 802. Despite their poor record, every goal they score is celebrated as if they have won a title, regardless of the result of the match.

San Marino’s only victory came in a friendly against Liechtenstein in April 2004. They played their first official international game in 1990 and have not won a competitive match since then. The team is approaching 19 years since their last victory as they begin their Euro 2024 qualifiers this month.

San Marino has gained a reputation as the worst side in Europe, having been beaten by 10 goals or more seven times over the years. England was the latest team to hand them a drubbing, winning 10-0 in November 2021 during the World Cup qualifiers. Despite these results, San Marino has gained more fans, especially on social media, with fan accounts gaining many followers for their reactions.

If San Marino ever gets that first competitive win, social media may just explode!
