Salford City Manager Neil Wood Sacked Following Heavy Defeat to Tranmere

Salford City Football Club has announced the departure of manager Neil Wood following their 5-1 defeat to Tranmere on Tuesday. Wood, who led the club to the League Two Play-Offs last season, has struggled to replicate that success this term. The team has suffered 16 defeats since the start of the campaign and currently sits 21st in the table.

The Boxing Day defeat to Tranmere proved to be the final straw for club chiefs, leading to Wood’s dismissal. In an official statement, the club expressed gratitude for Wood’s hard work over the past 18 months and acknowledged his role in achieving the club’s highest-ever finish in Sky Bet League Two last season. They wished him well in his future endeavors within football.

The process of appointing a new manager will begin immediately, with Assistant Coach Simon Wiles taking charge of the team for Friday’s game against Grimsby Town.

Wood took over as Salford City manager in May 2022 and managed 88 competitive games. Prior to joining Salford, he served as the manager of Manchester United’s Under-23 team. Wood had previously played for United’s academy but was unable to break into the first team. He had loan spells at Royal Antwerp, Peterborough United, and Burnley before joining Coventry City permanently in 2004. Throughout his playing career, he also represented Blackpool, Oldham Athletic, Željezničar, and Atherstone Town.

In conclusion, Salford City has made the decision to part ways with Neil Wood due to their disappointing performance this season. The club is now focused on finding a new manager who can lead them to success in the future.
