Mohamed Salah’s Injury Update: Agent Reveals Severity of Injury
Mohamed Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, has provided an update on the Egyptian forward’s injury, stating that it is “more serious than first thought.” Salah sustained a hamstring injury during a match at the Africa Cup of Nations and was expected to make a quick recovery upon returning to Liverpool.
However, fans, especially those supporting Egypt, have been dealt a blow with the news from Salah’s agent. Issa took to Twitter to announce that Salah will be out of action for 21-28 days, contradicting the Egyptian Football Association’s claim that he would only miss two games.
Mohammed’s injury is more serious than first thought and he will be out for 21-28 days, and not 2 games.
His best chance at participating in the current AFCON is by undergoing intensive rehabilitation in the UK and rejoining the team as soon as he is fit.— Ramy Abbas Issa (@RamyCol) January 22, 2024
This means that Salah will be sidelined for three to four weeks and may only have a chance to return if Egypt reaches the final. Issa also suggested that Salah’s best chance of participating in the Africa Cup of Nations is to undergo intensive rehabilitation in the UK and rejoin the team once he is fit.
While this news is disappointing for Egypt fans, it may not have a significant impact on Liverpool. The earliest possible return for Salah would be against Burnley on February 10. However, this seems unlikely unless his recovery progresses faster than anticipated due to the attention he receives at Liverpool.
It is worth noting that Salah has been one of the least injury-prone players at Liverpool. This injury could potentially equal the longest period of time he has been sidelined in his career. Previously, his longest spell on the sidelines was 28 days due to an ankle injury while playing for AS Roma in 2015.
Jurgen Klopp and the team will have prepared for Salah’s absence until the final and will have a plan in place for the coming weeks. Salah will miss Liverpool’s games against Fulham (League Cup), Norwich (FA Cup), Chelsea, and Arsenal.
If Egypt does not progress in the tournament, Salah could potentially return for Liverpool’s match against Burnley on February 10. Alternatively, he may be available for the match against Brentford on February 17, which is after the AFCON final. If Salah and Egypt do not make it to the final, they will have another opportunity to compete in the tournament in 2025, hosted by Morocco and not conflicting with the European season.
