Mamadou Sakho Leaves Montpellier After Clashing With Manager
===========================================================
Defender Mamadou Sakho has left French club Montpellier after clashing with manager Michel der Zakarian in a training session, according to reports from L’Equipe. The 33 year old was said to have stormed off after his manager did not give him a foul in training and later, angered by something Der Zakarian said, grabbed him and knocked him over.
The club released a statement saying that “after 10 days of reflection, both parties have agreed in good faith” to end the contract between them, but Sakho later wrote on social media that he “declines all responsibility” and that “you have to know how to leave the table when respect is no longer served”.
Sakho had only been at Montpellier since July 2021 and had played 49 times for the club, but only six of those appearances came after the arrival of Armenian Der Zakarian in February of this year.
This is not the first time that Sakho has had disciplinary issues during his career; his spell at Liverpool also ended for disciplinary reasons after he was sent home from their pre-season tour of the United States in July 2016 after being late on three separate occasions and did not play for the club again – joining Crystal Palace, initially on loan, in February 2017.
Mamadou Sakho’s Career
———————-
Mamadou Sakho is a 33 year old French defender who has had an illustrious career in football, playing for some of Europe’s top clubs including Liverpool and Crystal Palace as well as his most recent club Montpellier.
Sakho began his career at Paris Saint Germain in 2004 and made over 200 appearances for the club before moving to Liverpool in 2013 for a fee of £18 million – making him the most expensive defender in Liverpool’s history at the time. He made 80 appearances for Liverpool before his spell was cut short due to disciplinary issues and he joined Crystal Palace on loan in 2017 before making the move permanent in 2018.
Sakho then moved to Montpellier in 2021 and made 49 appearances for the club before his contract was terminated due to his altercation with manager Michel der Zakarian in training earlier this year.
Conclusion
———-
Mamadou Sakho’s career has been blighted by disciplinary issues and his latest incident at Montpellier has seen him leave the club after just 10 months with them. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Sakho, but it is clear that he needs to address his disciplinary issues if he is to have any chance of continuing his career in football at the highest level.
