Reports suggest that Ruben Neves is set to join Barcelona on a free transfer, but there is one problem – manager Xavi does not want him. Instead, Xavi is said to prefer Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi for the key position. According to Fichajes, Xavi does not have “absolute confidence” in Neves to play in the role. Neves has reportedly agreed on a four-year contract with Barcelona, but the move still relies on Ansu Fati agreeing terms with Wolves. The club will not be spending any money on signing Neves as he will be involved in a swap deal that will see Fati move the other way. Super-agent Jorge Mendes represents both players and will be handling the negotiations. However, Zubimendi has a release clause of £52 million, which would be a more expensive transfer for Barcelona, who are still dealing with financial issues.
