Real Salt Lake Signs U.S. Youth International Midfielder Sean Petrie
Real Salt Lake (RSL) has made an exciting addition to their roster by signing highly-rated U.S. youth international midfielder Sean Petrie. Sources involved in the deal have confirmed this news to The Athletic. The agreement is for RSL’s second team, MLS Next Pro side Real Monarchs.
At just 16 years old, Petrie has already shown immense talent and potential. He has spent the last few years honing his skills at the prestigious Barca Residency Academy in Arizona. Petrie’s dedication and hard work paid off when he earned a training stint at La Masia, the renowned academy for FC Barcelona in Spain. His abilities were further showcased when he featured for the United States U-16 squad earlier this summer, scoring in his debut match against Japan.
The Barca AZ residency has been a breeding ground for numerous talented professionals in recent years. Players like Julián Araujo (Barcelona), Caden Clark (RB Leipzig), Matthew Hoppe (Middlesbrough), Rokas Pukstas (Hajduk Split), Bryce Duke (CF Montreal), Brooklyn Raines (Houston Dynamo), and Petrie’s new teammate Diego Luna (RSL) have all emerged from this academy.
Real Salt Lake is currently in the midst of a busy transfer window, making significant moves to strengthen their squad. They recently set a new club-record deal by acquiring forward Chicho Arango from Pachuca for a staggering $6 million. Additionally, they secured the services of midfielder Nelson Palacio from Atletico Nacional for approximately $2 million.
With these new signings, RSL aims to bolster their team and make a strong push for success in the Western Conference. Currently sitting in third place with 37 points after 24 matches, they are determined to climb even higher in the standings.
As Real Salt Lake continues to make strategic moves in the transfer market, the signing of Sean Petrie adds another promising young talent to their ranks. Petrie’s experience at the Barca Residency Academy and his training stint at La Masia have undoubtedly shaped him into a player with immense potential. RSL fans can look forward to seeing him develop and contribute to the team’s success in the future.
