Roy Keane believes Manchester United can mount a title challenge next season and emerge as Manchester City’s biggest rival ahead of the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. Despite Arsenal leading the title race for 248 days, Man City overhauled the Gunners to lift the Premier League trophy for a third successive year, finishing five points ahead of runners-up Arsenal and 14 ahead of third-placed Manchester United.
United recovered from a dismal start to the campaign to climb into the Champions League places under Erik ten Hag and secure their first piece of silverware since 2017. Old Trafford legend Keane is confident his former club can go to another level next season and even challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.
Asked who he sees as Man City’s biggest challenges next term, Keane told Sky Sports: ‘I’m going to go for Manchester United. I hope it comes from United. It will depend of course on the takeover and the recruitment this summer because they need a world-class striker.’
While Manchester United will attempt to win their first league title since 2013 next season, recent champions Liverpool and Chelsea will look to climb up the table following underwhelming seasons. Liverpool finished fifth – missing out on the Champions League – despite an impressive run towards the end of the campaign, while Chelsea suffered their worst season in almost 30 years as they finished 12th, closer to the relegation zone than the top-four. Arsenal were attempting to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004 but their title charge crumbled during the run-in.
