Romelu Lukaku Refuses Saudi Pro League Move and is ‘Annoyed’ with Chelsea
Romelu Lukaku has made it clear he has no intention of returning to Chelsea (Picture: Getty) after turning down a transfer to the Saudi Pro League and expressing his annoyance with the Blues over their refusal to grant him his ideal move. The 30-year-old Belgium international is currently on loan at Inter Milan, but Chelsea are not keen on sending him out on loan again.
Lukaku’s Frustration with Chelsea
After his first season back at Stamford Bridge following a £97million move from Inter failed to work out, Lukaku returned to Inter on loan having fallen out with Thomas Tuchel. Lukaku failed to hit the heights he did under Antonio Conte at San Siro, but still played a key role in helping the Nerazzurri reach a first Champions League final in 13 years. The Belgium international would ideally like to spend another season at Inter but Chelsea are not keen on sending the 30-year-old out on loan again. According to The Telegraph, Lukaku is frustrated at Chelsea’s stance, especially with no other major European club showing an interest in his services at this stage of the transfer window.
Chelsea’s Transfer Plans
Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to trim his squad ahead of the start of pre-season and Chelsea are keen to resolve the futures of players he has deemed surplus to requirements before the end of the month to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations. To that end, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic are on the brink of completing moves to Al Ittihad and Manchester City respectively. Chelsea are braced to receive improved bids for Kai Havertz and Mason Mount from Arsenal and Manchester United.
Despite the pressure to sell players, Chelsea are pressing ahead with their summer recruitment drive and are confident of completing a move for Moses Caicedo after seeing an opening £60m bid rebuffed by Brighton. Chelsea are also set to activate Nicolas Jackson’s Villarreal release clause which stands at £30million. Talks with the highly-rated young forward began last week and personal terms are already understood to have been agreed.
